Dear parents and friends

School meals

Last week we had a visit from Manchester Fayre who explained to the children about the changes in the school meals menu.  We are very excited about the changes and are sure that the children will enjoy their meals much more.  If you would like your child to change from a packed lunch to a school meal please see Mrs Atherton on the main desk.  Also don’t forget that we have the Friday Club when children can have a school meal instead of their packed lunch on a Friday if it is booked at least 2 days beforehand.

Healthy School

We were awarded the Healthy School Silver Award last term and would like to remind our parents and carers that we need to encourage our children to eat healthy packed lunches in school. Please can you restrict chocolate bars and fizzy drinks.  Many thanks.

Family Quiz Night

Our Family Quiz night is on Thursday 16th October from 3.45pm.  We are looking forward to having fun challenging teachers and seeing which team has the best general knowledge.   Entry is £1 per family on the night.    Autumn raffle tickets are also on sale every night for the next few days, the raffle will be drawn during the quiz and the prizes are a Halloween hamper, alcohol and other delights!

Morrison’s Lets Grow vouchers

We are collecting the vouchers offered by Morrison’s, please ask your family and friends to collect them for us and bring them to the box on the main desk.  We are looking forward to being able to exchange them for gardening equipment.

Thank you for your support during our walk to school week.

Half term holidays

We break up for the half term holiday on Friday 24th October 2008 at 3.20 pm and school re-opens on Monday 3rd November 2008 at 8.55 am.

 Very best wishes

Dear parents and friends

A very big welcome back to all our families and staff and a special welcome to all the new children who have joined us this term.  We also welcome some new members of staff to our team, Jessica Groarke our nursery teacher, Leanne Straker teaching year 4, Melissa Knight teaching year 2, Samantha Costigan  teaching ICT and Joan Adams and Diane McDonald are our new learning facilitators.

School Clothing/equipment

Please make sure that your child’s clothing & personal equipment is marked with their name as the school will not be responsible for items lost.

School grounds

As you will see over the summer holidays the grass has grown and we have had some tyres fitted into the playground.  These should only be used during supervised sessions with school staff.  Please note that the tyres are slippery when wet and so we are asking you not to allow your children to use them before or after school.

Milk money

Milk money needs to be paid by 9.00 am on Friday 12th September.  At £4.20 per term it is still excellent value and provides your child with essential vitamins and minerals.  It will NOT be possible to pay after this date.

Holidays

Please can I remind you that all holidays should be taken outside the school term dates.  I appreciate that this is not always possible, there is a holiday request form available from the main desk should you need to take your child/ren out of school.

Fire Drills

Please can I remind everyone that in the event of a fire evacuation, drill or otherwise all the children will not be released the ‘all clear’ has been given.

Please find on the reverse of this newsletter the topics to be covered this term and the homework expectations.

Very best wishes

Dear parents and friends,

Below is some important information:

Parents afternoon
By now you should have all received the letters about the parents afternoon on Monday 14th July. If you are unable to collect your child at 2.00 pm then arrangements will be made for them to stay in school until 3.20 pm. Please inform you child’s class teacher if you need your child to stay in school.

Flora – Cooking with schools
‘Flora ‘ are producing tokens that can be redeemed for cooking equipment by school. These tokens need to be entered onto the website so we are asking if you could bring the tokens into school and we will get the children to enter the details. Please continue to save the tokens even during the summer holidays.

Dinner Money
Unfortunately we have received notification that the cost of a school meal is to rise again in September. The cost will be £1.83 per day, £9.15 per week. Please see Mrs Atherton on the main desk if you need to change your child’s meal arrangements.

Summer Fair
On Saturday 28th, we had a great few hours at our Summer Fair. The weather was really kind to us and everyone that came had loads of fun. It was great to watch the two dance troupes and to raise an amazing £1,200 for school funds.
Many thanks to all those who donated goods, gave of their time and all those who spent their money on the day.

Year 6 leavers assembly
We are holding our special assembly for the Year 6 children who are leaving us for high school on Friday 18th July at 1.30 pm. We would like to welcome any parents and carers with children in year 6 to attend.

Last day of term
School will close at 2.30pm (after the Leavers assembly) on Friday 18th July 2008 and re-open after the summer holidays on Tuesday 2nd September 2008 at 8.55 am.

All the staff at Haveley Hey would like to take this opportunity to wish the children, parents and carers a long, hopefully warm and relaxing summer holiday.

Very best wishes

Dear parents and carers

Lunchtime organisers
Due to an increase in pupil numbers we now have vacancies for lunchtime organisers and wondered if any of our parents, carers or friends would consider working in school at lunchtime. We need someone who is available every day (Monday – Friday) from between the hours of 11.30 – 1.30 pm. The scale of pay is £6.34 per hour. If you are interested please see Mrs Brown for further details.

Items for sale
One of our parents is having to sell a few household items before she returns to her homeland of Portugal. She has for sale an Indesit washing machine, a pink travel cot and an ironing board. Any contributions will be much appreciated. If you are interested please see the Reception staff.

School Grounds
Now that the warmer weather has arrived we have been able to re-start the work on our grounds. The landscapers are busy preparing for a running track, football pitch, garden area and general play area. We are looking forward to its completion. Watch this space!

Summer Fair
We are looking forward to our summer fair on Saturday 28th June 2008 from 11.00 – 2.00 pm. We are having some great stalls and activities and are hoping for an excellent day with lots of sunshine and fun. Please do your best to attend. If you are able to help in any way, bake cakes, help with stalls or anything else you feel would be useful please see either Miss Ramsbotham in the nursery or Mrs Boswell in the canteen.

Reminder
Please can you ask your children not to climb on the wall at the front of the school building or walk on the flower beds. It is wonderful to see so many of our children coming to school on bikes but please can you remind them not to cycle on the school grounds as it is dangerous. Many thanks.

Advance notice
On the last day of term – Friday 18th July 2008 school will close at 2.30pm.

Very best wishes

Dear parents and carers

Fund raising

We have been introduced to a new scheme which allows school to gain commission when people make purchases on-line.  The web site is easyfundraising.org.uk and it has over 500 links including Next, Asda, Woolworths, Amazon, HMV, Tescos, Thorntons and obviously, much, much more.  When you first use the website you will be asked to register and then nominate a fund raiser, we are registered as Haveley Hey Community School.  Please give us some thought next time you decide to order something online.

Milk money

Payment of milk money is due again!  At £4.20 per term it is still excellent value (it works out as just 7pence per day).  If you would like your child to have milk it must be paid for by Wednesday 19th March 2008.  It will not be possible to order milk after this date.

Indoor shoes

Thank you to all the parents and carers who continue to make sure that we keep this wonderful building clean by providing pumps for their children.  However, many of the children have now outgrown the pumps that school provided. PLEASE can you replace the pumps  as and when necessary ( or buy something similar).  We have asked the local Asda store to stock black pumps and the cost is approximately £1.99.

Music Showcase

On Thursday 20th March 2008 from 1.30 - 2.30 pm we are holding an Easter Music Showcase which will be a compilation of musical pieces performed by the children in Key Stage 2.  We would love to see as many parents and carers as possible.  Our school day will finish for all the children at the end of the concert.

Easter holiday club

We will be holding an Easter holiday club again this year from 25th March - 28th March and then 31st March - 4th April.  Watch this space and look out for the posters!!

Very best wishes

Newsletter - February  2008

Dear parents and friends,

Parking

We have received more complaints from our neighbours regarding the parking of cars on Nearbrook Road, blocking of driveways, driving on the grass verges and general disregard for homeowners access.  Please can you all take more care when driving and parking your vehicles.

Photographs

We have now managed to re-schedule our school photographer and she is coming into school on Tuesday 5th February 2008 to take class photographs as well as individual ones.   She will be available to take family groups from 8.30 - 8.50 am.  Please see Mrs Atherton if you wish to book a family slot.

Contact telephone numbers

We are having increasing difficulty in contacting many of our parents which is proving a problem when children are ill.  If you have changed your home or mobile phone numbers please let the administration staff know as soon as possible.

Calendar dates

On the reverse of this newsletter is the list of holiday dates for the next school year 2008/2009.  Please make a note of them and try where possible not to take holidays in term time.  Thank you

Just to remind parents of year 6 children that SATS week is May 12th 2008 - your child needs to be in school for the whole of that week.

Music Showcase

We are excited about a Music Showcase that Miss Osborne has put together.  Please come and hear the wonderful music that our children can make on Thursday 20th March starting at 1.30pm.  School will finish at 2.30 pm at the end of the concert.

Half term

School closes at 3.20 pm on Friday 8th February 2008 for half term and re-opens at 8.55 am on Monday 18th February 2008.

 Dear parents and friends

Happy New Year to you all!

I trust that everyone has had a good Christmas and New Year and we look forward to an exciting new term.

We were very fortunate and extremely grateful for all the ‘goodies’ that the Airport staff provided for our children which came home in the rucksacks.

Healthy Schools Award

In December 2007 we had our Healthy Schools assessment and were pleased to be informed that we achieved the Silver standard.  Healthy eating and physical activity were the key areas and we are proud of our achievements - Well done Mrs Deacon-Rock for all your hard work!

Indoor shoes

Many thanks to all the parents and carers that have continued to support us in keeping our new building in such good order by providing children with pumps to wear indoors.  The manager at the local Asda store ensures me that pumps are on sale for approximately £1.99.  Please can we ALL continue to change our shoes.

Sharing your child’s work

This term, instead of class assemblies each week, we are going to invite you to come into your child’s class at 9.00 am.  This will give you an opportunity to share with your child the progress in their books.  You will be sent a letter of invite the week before your visit.

Our year 6 children will be taking their SATs tests during the week commencing 14th May 2007. This is an important week and we need to have ALL the children in school all week and on time. New School!
As you will all have seen our new school building is progressing really quickly now and things are looking brilliant. In order for the classrooms to be changed over we will have to close the school to the children. School will be close on Wednesday 20th June 2007 and will re-open on Thursday 28th June 2007. I will keep you all posted with any further developments as much as I can. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.
